Judy Chaffins has worked in the Gifted Services Department of the Allen County Educational Service Center for twenty-six years.  She began her career teaching first grade at Bath Local Schools after graduating from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.   Later, she became a gifted intervention specialist serving third through eighth grades at both Delphos City Schools and Elida Local Schools.  After obtaining a Master’s of Education Degree from Bowling Green State University and obtaining a Supervisor’s License from the University of Dayton, she became a coordinator for gifted education.  In that capacity, she has coordinated all levels of Allen County Quiz Bowls, conducted the Allen County Spelling Bee each year, served as a liaison with the Science Enhancement Through Science Advancement (SESA) program, taught as an adjunct professor at Bluffton University teaching graduate courses on assessment, conducted numerous local and regional professional development trainings, as well as working with gifted staff throughout the county.  She has been active in the Ohio Association for Gifted Children and has served as President, as well as many other leadership roles to advocate for the needs of gifted children.  She has made many trips to Washington D.C. and the Ohio Legislature to testify for appropriate services and funding for gifted students.

She is active in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elida, currently serving as choir director. She has been married to Don for over forty years, has two married children, Lori (Josh Motzer) and Todd (Jenny) and has five grandchildren which give her great joy.
